Rock Paper Scissors ONLINE

Rock, Paper, Scissors is a game that can be taken virtually, and Ethan Gasee from Tanenbaum CHAT in Toronto had his whole school throwing down their virtual rocks in an online tournament.

A signup form was sent out to the whole student body and staff on Google Forms. The participants were asked for their first, second and third choice of weapon for each round. The participants were then organized into a single elimination bracket based on grade. Every week, a Google Form was sent out to the participants where they chose Rock-Paper-Scissors. The website called Challonge was used to make the brackets. If the two participants tied on each of their three choices in a challenge, both were eliminated and the person in the next bracket got a bye to the next level.

Students loved it. There was a lot of friendly competition and competitiveness. For the finals and semi-finals, participants were asked to send in a video of them doing rock paper scissors, and the video was edited it to be posted on the school Youtube channel. It was a very simple, easy to run program that many students and staff enjoyed.

Virtual winner with his real trophy.
