Food Bank BINGO!

ree

Looking to make your next food drive more exciting and more impactful? Here is a twist that Grand Manan Community School did , where they turned a typical food bank collection into a game everyone wanted to play: Food Bank BINGO! Instead of asking for random non-perishables, the school created a custom BINGO card filled with items their local food bank actually needed. It was a clever way to focus donations on useful, wanted, and dignified items because let’s face it: if you wouldn’t eat it at home, others probably don’t want to either.

Why It Works

It's Targeted: No more mystery cans of creamed corn! Students know exactly what to bring.

It's Goal-Oriented: The visual of checking off a BINGO square makes it feel like a challenge, not a chore.

It Starts Conversations: It sparks awareness about what food banks really need and why dignity matters in giving.

Want to Expand It?

You can level up this idea by:

  • Inviting school teams, clubs, or classes to compete

  • Offering a prize (pizza party, trophy, or spirit points!) for every fully completed card

  • Posting progress updates to build school-wide momentum

  • Creating a “BINGO Wall” to show how many lines or cards have been completed

Final Thought

Food Bank BINGO proves that giving back doesn’t have to be boring. With a little creativity

and community spirit, you can make service engaging, purposeful, and even fun. It's a small idea with the potential for big impact one square (and one can of soup) at a time.
