The number one rule in modern marketing is that word of mouth is the most powerful way to let people know what is happening. Yale Secondary leadership students are paired with a teacher in the school to act as a “leadership buddy” on the first day of school. This means that when it is Jersey Day, the leadership buddy finds his or her teacher buddy and tells them about the upcoming Jersey Day. If the teacher doesn’t have a jersey, the leadership buddy offers to provide one. The same thing happens on PJ Day. This has improved the staff participation on spirit events and makes them feel more connected to activities in the school. The leadership buddy also knows what the teacher takes in their coffee or tea and provides treats to keep the relationship going. This beats texts and memos to the general population of teachers every time!
